New Video Jeep Shots!
An exciting new feature on jpmagazine.com is Video Jeep Shots! and Video Jeep Chicks. Whether you're just posing with your rig or have some gnarly off-road action, we want to see it! For you and your friends' safety, do not stage stunts, a-la "Jack@$$". Try to keep the language clean, but feel free to send raw (literally and figuratively) footage. We'll bleep out your verbal indiscretions.
Guidelines for Video Jeep Chicks
Ladies, we loved the still photos you sent us a few months ago. We'd love to get you on video too! What we want is pretty straightforward: You with your Jeep, talking about your Jeep. Why you love it, maybe a funny short story. Get as creative or crazy as you want! Some action 'wheeling footage is cool too, but no need to do anything stupid or dangerous. Try to keep it brief (final clips will be edited down to about 2-3 minutes). If you don't, you'll be at the mercy of our video editor. BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!! See below for specific technical requirements for submissions.
Here are some tips to make your shooting easier on you and easier for us to edit:
• Hit the "record" button a few seconds before you start talking or recording stuff. This makes it easier to edit.
• When you're done speaking/recording, also let the tape trail off for a few seconds before hitting the "stop" button.
• If you have an articulating viewfinder on your video cam, you'll actually get a more stable picture by holding the camera against your chest and looking down at the viewfinder than trying to hold it up to your eye.
• Use an auxiliary plug-in microphone if you have one. We'll be able to hear you more clearly.
• Avoid direct sunlight in the camera. If you're getting streaks or starbursts in the viewfinder, it's probably recording that, too.
• Always shoot with your back to the sun, if possible. BUT. . .watch out for hard shadows. Make sure they're not blocking out any stuff you're trying to get on tape.
Guidelines for Video Jeep Shots
Send us all relevant footage, but please keep total footage to no more than 20-30 minutes, or at least organized into sub-folders. Final featured video clips will be edited to between 1.5 to 2 minutes in length. Getting stuck is cool, but recovering is even cooler! We want to see you being winched out, pulled out, or just powering out with plenty of spinning and splatter!
Technical Requirements
Video Jeep Shots footage is accepted on Mini-DV tape (preferred), or burned on Mac-formatted CD-R / DVD-R's as a .mov, .avi, or .mpg. The size of the clip should be 320 x 240. Since submitted media cannot be returned, if you want to keep a copy, we recommend getting the footage duplicated, or save it on your computer and burn a DVD before sending us the tape or disc. Videos will be posted at the editor's discretion. Please send your Video Jeep Shots! or Video Jeep Chicks to:
