We liked the smooth lines of this bumper from www.bentbumpers.com. It has a large, lockable storage area, but doesn't just look like a toolbox bolted on the back of your jeep. As an added bonus, it can be opened with the liftgate up or down. | This early Willys wagon didn't win Best of Show, but it was our favorite. We're not sure if it was restored or just a survivor with fresh paint, but it was a clean, not-overbuilt wagon that could be driven daily. | No matter how ugly or pretty your Jeep, it was welcome here; someone out there would appreciate it. Next year, even if you think your Jeep is less than beautiful, bring it out and join the fun. |
Even built Jeeps with skilled drivers can have problems. After Jim Buckley ran the rock course while in Reverse with no problems, he tried his luck with the logs in the wrong direction. Hey, it was worth a shot. | This hill was no more than a speed bump for this late-model Cherokee with cut wheelwells and big Super Swamper Boggers. Luckily, there were no deep water obstacles on the course. |
Yep, that's right, even in rural Pennsylvania you can get in a traffic jam. This two-door Cherokee was having problems getting over the rock while others lined up and anxiously waited their turn. | After making your way across the rocks, you head straight into the dirt mounds. However, there was a bypass of the rocks if you weren't feeling up to the challenge. | Even first-timers in stock Jeeps were more than welcome to try their luck. There was someone there to walk you through every step of the way if you wanted. |
In case you couldn't make the show or you weren't brave enough to try the rocks, here's a view looking back from the driver's seat after driving the rock course. | John Hubbard of Oyster Bay, New York, plays on a dirt mound in his '78 YJ-7, which has a 3.2L Nissan turbodiesel engine. It has a YJ body/frame, CJ front end/tailgate, TJ flares, D300 and D44 axles, SOA with YJ springs, and is locked front and rear. | |
