Reservation/cancellation info: Reservations require a major credit card and Cliffhanger employs a 7-day cancellation policy. Cancellation within 7 days will be charged the full cost of rental, however the company tries to be realistic and may make exceptions if it's during a slow time. However, if you cancel during a busy period expect to pay.
Insurance requirements: Renters should provide their own full-coverage vehicle insurance. Renters must check with their insurance company first to make sure they will be covered for a vacation rental vehicle.
Additional/optional coverage: Cliffhanger offers optional tire and glass coverage for $20/day that includes repair or replacement of one tire and small glass damage cause by rock chips. If you completely blow out a side window or windshield you or your insurance company will be paying for it.
Minimum age: Renters must be 25 years old.
International stipulations: Cliffhanger is the only company we found to offer a collision damage waiver and supplemental liability policy for international customers. It charges $50/day for the collision waiver and an additional $20/day for liability. Otherwise, international customers wishing to supply their own insurance will need to verify that their insurance will cover US vacation car rentals.
Trail stipulations: Cliffhanger has a list of non-approved trails on which its Jeeps shouldn't be used such as Moab Rim, Golden Spike, Poison Spider Mesa, etc.
What is the process for damage?: A vehicle walk-around is performed before and after rental. Simple replacement items like axleshafts, fender flares, and similar breakages are charged replacement costs. However body damage such as dents or major scratches in the hood, tub, and fenders are charged based on the severity of damage. Normally if no insurance claim is made Cliffhanger will make a $2,000 charge to the customer's credit card and then refund balance after the repairs have been made.
What is the process for trail breakage or extreme stuck?: Cliffhanger assesses each situation individually. In the event of customer-induced trail breakage such as an axleshaft break, repairs will be made in the field or a replacement Jeep delivered at a rate of $100/hour. If the vehicle is rolled or rendered immobilized by the customer, Cliffhanger will provide the customer with the number of several off-road towing services. If the vehicle suffers damage or breakage not caused by the customer, the Jeep will be swapped out in the field at no charge.
Moab Airport shuttle service or drop-off availabilty: Cliffhanger can arrange pick-up at the Moab Airport. It will also consider drop-off and pick-up of a rental vehicle locally depending on length of rental.
Any off-road driving tips/training offered if needed: The customer will be familiarized with the equipment, operation of the T-case, lockers, and four-wheel-drive systems before they take the Jeep, but the company doesn't offer any formal training. It suggests customers stick to trails within their abilities and uses a guide service such as Dan Mick's Guided Jeep Tours if further teaching is required or desired.
