Do you realize that every year there are about 15 pages of Jp Magazine that you have complete control over? Thats right, were talking to you, Reader. You write the copy, you shoot the photo, you fill the pages of the magazine. That means we get to kick back with our tasty Ding Dongs and let our intern Tim clip our toenails while you do all the work for us. In fact, the only thing stopping you from taking our job right out from under us are the rusty nails and barbed wire weve put in our office doorway, and the rapid Teacup Poodle behind the door.
So what are we talking about here? Why, the ever-popular Jeep Shots and Sideways departments. Jeep Shots is simply readers rides: works in progress, done deals, daily drivers, off-road rigs, mud boggers, rockcrawlers, family haulers, rust buckets, freakishly clean machines, oddities, new stuff--well, you get the picture. Sideways is everything from humiliating photos of how you managed to park your Jeep upside down on fire after the "brakes didnt work" while backing down hill, to snaps of anything related to Jeep, including vintage, different, fun, or cool junk that you think other readers would dig.
Heres all you have to do:
A. Take a photo of said Jeep or cool stuff
The photo must be in focus (and not only if we squint), show the actual vehicle (we dont like to play "Wheres Waldo" with your Jeep), and not have Aunt Berthas mug anywhere in it (were not a modeling agency, so you dont improve your chances with a bikini. Especially men). Really--the legal dudes upstairs make us shelf ones where we can make out the faces of people in the photo. They also wont let us run photos that arent submitted by the owner of the vehicle pictured. Other notables: Photos can be in color or black and white. Photos cannot be illustrations, doodles, or still in the disposable camera.
B. Tell us what were seeing
Give us the scoop on the year, the make, the model, and the mods, but more importantly, we like stories. Let us know how you took possession of the Jeep. We especially like novellas that begin with, "So I says to Lefty, I says...."
C. Include your name, phone number, and address
No, were not hoping we can get together with you on the weekends, and no we wont be selling your digits to those annoying people who call when youre sitting down for dinner.
D. Donts
Like we said, dont send photos of people smiling into the camera. Dont send in photos of someone elses Jeep. Dont expect payment for your submission. Dont expect to see the photos ever again. And dont write to ask when your Jeep will appear. If youve followed all of the steps above, the odds are in your favor!
E. Send in your Jeep!
Mail your photo and related content to Jeep Shots or Sideways (you need to specify the department), Jp Magazine, 6420 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90048.
F. Your Jeep on the Cover?!
Yep, its true, your Jeep can get on the cover of Jp. Go to the "Games & More" button on the left-side navigation bar on the jpmagazine.com homepage, then select "Build My Cover." Follow the instructions and voila!
