Alright not a single one of you nailed Verne's E.T. on the nose, so the winner is Johnathan Garnett from Canada, who's response was good enough for us. His guess? We'll quote Johnathan: "I think poor Verne's 3A could only manage a score of 29.99." Reality? 29.57. While Johnathan gets to take home the shirt, photos, and ignition coil, there are some honorable mentions, like the E-mail from L+C+T+Z Cornell, with a guess of "32.73 due to poor reaction time of .504," and Shane Bowes, who gets kudos for at least getting right the number we told Verne he got after he was all smiles following his jaunt down the track. That would be 17.56.

It all started innocently enough--as innocently as a day can that features four-bys taking over a car show and race track, nearly as much ammo being fired off as one of the WWs, wiener-measuring truck launches, and a product test that had our own Verne brandishing a Spivey Sabertooth knife (a rare, limited-production 8-incher). It was all in day's work for the staff of our sister pub, 4-Wheel & Off-Road. They asked us to come out and be a part of their Hazel Fun-Fest (which you can read all about in their November issue, hitting newsstands October 2, or get a peek at by clicking here) and that meant taking Verne's '49 CJ-3A down the strip.
How'd he do? We could tell you but then where's the fun? We want you to guess his exact time and in exchange we'll give you unbelievable booty: Verne's ignition coil (signed by Verne)! Verne's adult XL Valvoline racing shirt (signed by Verne but never worn by Verne)! A photo of a race-ready Verne in his flattie (signed by Verne)! Both will give you an inside look at the 3A. And here are a few more tips: It has a 134 flathead four-cylinder, has 32-inch tires with a same-size spare, and probably weighs around 2,500 pounds. Verne weighs about two bills, and the Jeep has a couple pounds of dirt from the last four-wheeling adventure. Since it was a hot day, Verne-o-rama had a cool 25.3-ounce beverage in the cupholder. Finally, we've run a stock TJ down this same track and scored 17.96.
