Ladies Love Jp
I'm guess I'm responding to all the Mailbag comments about how insulting your magazine is toward women. Well, I'm a woman who owns a Jeep! I have always wanted a Jeep. You know, the kind you buy at a dealership ... well, that's not what I have now. I went and test drove some brand-new Jeeps. Then $32,000.99 later, I might have had a Jeep, so I bought a used Jeep instead - it's an '87 YJ (yeah, I bought it before the article). Well, after a Clifford intake and header, a Holley four-barrel, 4.56 gears front and back with Detroit Lockers, 35s, and lots of other modifications, I do bother. But without your mag, I would have never known to do all this stuff. I didn't grow up with brothers and a mud-drag dad. I just knew I liked Jeeps and wanted one. I found one that ran that I could afford to pay cash for and happened to buy your mag in a store and learned how to make a cheap find into a great Jeep. Men now offer to buy my Jeep all the time. Now I must admit, my husband does all the grunt work but only at my asking. I don't find your mag insulting at all - only entertaining and educational. Now I'm sure readers will think, "Oh, well, it's really her husband's passion." Not at all. What he really wants is to buy a Harley (he just saves me money on labor). He likes the Jeep, but it's my baby. Anyway, I have found your magazine nothing but educational and entertaining and hope someday my Jeep will be featured, because it is bad ASS!! Thanks for what you do!HeatherVia e-mail
Vote and Petition
Here are my two cents on Bree.1. Lets put it to a vote. Instead of five or six subscription-renewal cards in the 'zine, how about one card to be sent to Cappa with a simple vote? It would read "VOTE FOR BREE" and there would be two boxes at the bottom marked yes or no. 2. Petition Chrysler to make a Bree-Edition Jeep.3. If not Chrysler, how about Hot Wheels or Matchbox.By the way, I read the tech articles too. Thanks, and keep up the great work on the 'zine.Rick CipollaCoram, New York
Old School
I just read "Old School" in the Nov. '05 issue by Willie Worthy. His reference to using Hudson steering boxes prompted me to write my first letter to a magazine. I looked at a '48 CJ-2A six months ago that my Uncle built in Tucson, Arizona, in the early '60s. It uses a Hudson steering box along with a Studebaker overdrive behind the tranny and another one behind the transfer case. It's powered by a late-'50s Corvette 283, and there are many other mods done to it. My Uncle died 27 years ago, and the Jeep has not run since. The hood has a padlock on it that my Uncle put on that has never been unlocked. The name "El Burro" is cut out of steel and welded above the front bumper. He used it all over the Southwest, running helicopter tires on it. He claimed it would run about 130 mph. We love your magazine. My wife was receiving it before we got married. Between the two of us, we have owned a flatfender, a '56 CJ-5, a '74 CJ-5, and now have an '04 Sahara. Keep up the good work ... and let's see more of Bree. Larry HansenVia e-mail
Hang Out With Hazel and Cappa
I just finished reading the November '05 issue of Jp and the stories off the Web site. Cappa and Hazel sound fun to hang out with. I'd love to hang out for a weekend, but my wife wouldn't go for that. But I could get away with a full day because I'm still in Iraq and will have been away for a year. I love hanging out and working on Jeeps and stuff. Hell, I don't care even if it is stripping off bad parts. I could bring beer! SSG Karbo, David J.Task Force 1/11 ACR (out of Fort Irwin, California)
Hmmm, Hazel and I have grown tired of shooting our bb-guns at vermin and each other. Are ya willing to run around the yard and receive welts from a Red-Ryder with a compass in the stock and a thingy that tells time?Keep your head down and come back safe. And thanks for what you do.
