You might need to do a little...

You might need to do a little trimming on the throttle arm to allow the butterfly in the TBI to fully close. A few taps with the cut-off saw, and it shut as tight as Editor Cappa's wallet when the dinner check comes.

Mounting this puppy is important....

Mounting this puppy is important. Vapor lock is an issue and so is protection. We mounted the pump and filter next to the transfer case inside the skidplate. The instructions are very specific about where to mount your unit.
You never thought the day would come when you'd see a check engine light on your CJ's dash. Nightmares of 50 miles of wiring and complex computers flash through your mind. Unless you carry a digital programmer in your tool chest, you're not getting home anytime soon. The CJ, a monument to the 4x4, never came with a high-pressure fuel system, but still you waffle about whether or not you want it to start fast, get better mileage and climb without sputtering. We've all come down a hill or two backward, blind and with a stalled engine and little or no brakes. How much does it cost and how difficult it is to install? The Howell system covers those issues and then some by utilizing a reliable computer and throttle body from a GM engine. Since the Howell system doesn't come with an air filter, we called upon K&N to supply us with the recommended part. K&N offers a few units that will work--which one you need depends on local emission laws and your preference.
Install:
* You can tear out that old Ford, er CJ computer, and install your new Chevy brain in the same location.
* Wiring the new harness to the stock Duraspark ignition system is tricky.
* Grind the throttle arm to clear the intake manifold when the throttle is released.
* Mount the fuel pump in the proper location.
* When cutting the input fuel line, have a plug handy or the gas tank will drain...all over you.
* Seal up all the extra vacuum ports.
* You will need to purchase an air filter separately.
Test:
* The engine starts quickly with the Howell system.
* Our computer needed some mileage to get acquainted with our Jeep. Early on, we experienced a few stalls at stoplights.
* You can check trouble codes with the check engine light.
* We had more responsiveness and better performance than stock.
* It works well on inclines/declines, rough surfaces and at different altitudes.
* For dramatic elevation changes, turn off the ignition and disconnect the battery for a few minutes so the computer can adjust itself.
