Our Howe system didnt leak even with the Jeep on its side.
Original factory steering systems are for factory original Jeeps. Turning 27-inch tires with a worn-out leaky box and pump might not be all that bad but bump up the tire size to a 33-incher or larger and it can be like pull-starting a bulldozer. Almost all Jeeps that came with power steering use a GM-style Saginaw pump and steering box. In most cases only the mounting brackets are different. Even the later models still use GM pumps although many have a remote reservoir. If youve swapped in power steering, you probably used GM parts as well.
Having used junkyard steering stuff cuz its cheap, we knew what it could and wouldnt do. We were fed up with the constant leaking and belt squealing that our original GM pump offered so we gave a call to All Pro Off Road. All Pro offers a Howe remote reservoir pump and a killer aluminum reservoir with a built-in filter mount. Similar stuff can be found on NASCAR rigs and desert race trucks. The real bonus of this pump and reservoir is that they can easily be plumbed for use with a ram assist or even full hydraulic steering if thats your bag. The pump produces plenty of volume and is tested for 1,300 psi. The reservoir and filter hold more than enough fluid for almost any ram or steering box.
