Killer Commando
Milton Bretz of Godley, Texas, sent a bunch of awesome pictures. He's got a Commando we'd love to have, and a backyard littered with other Jeeps that just makes us envious. His '71 Commando is powered by a 350 Buick engine, Jacobs DUI ignition, Howell throttle body injection, and backed up with a TH-400 transmission. The Dana 300 hands off the power to a Dana 44 front and a Dana 60 rear, both with 4.88s and Detroit Lockers. The 37x13-15 Swamper Boggers are mounted on MRW bead locks.
Hungry, Hungry Jeep
This Jeep equivalent of a beach bunny comes to us from Kekaha, Hawaii. The owner, Mark Guthrie, bought the CJ-8 with a new drivetrain in it, and had the Jeep shipped from Maryland to the island of Kauai. A hurricane arrived the same day that the CJ-8 did, which knocked down a building onto the boat that Mark's Jeep sat on. Well, it took Mark a week to get into town after the hurricane, and by the time he'd gotten there, the military had taken charge of the docks. A cold six-pack convinced the Sergeant on duty to fire up the crane and move the debris from the newly purchased Jeep. Mark fired up the engine and drove away.
Pretzeled
Always check over the next rise. Al Brunkow of Wildomar, California, assumed that the tracks he was following were a safe way to go. This picture was taken in the Truckhaven Hills near Salton City, California. The electric green '04 Rubicon TJ has a Full Traction 6-inch, long-arm lift kit, 35-inch tires, and a Warn rear-tire carrier. After taking this half-gainer off the sand cliff, the front bumper is pretzeled, and Al is in the market for a good aftermarket unit.
