Tired Squirrels
Ray Roney sent us a picture of his '94 YJ out in Moab during the 2005 Easter Jeep Safari. With the 2.5L I-4 and 37x12.5 R15 Goodyear MT/Rs, he's not going anywhere fast. The Jeep has the stock Dana 30 front axle with an ARB locker and 4.88s, while the swapped-in Ford 8.8 rear axle has 4.88s and an ARB locker. The flatfenders up front are custom, and it's got 7-inch TJ flares to cover up those tires. We were wondering how the squirrels like the hilly highways around Moab, but Ray tells us that his club all chipped in to put eight of their Jeeps on the back of a car hauler for the trip to Moab.
Homebuilt Eight
Rick Bickley of Morenci, Arizona, has completely rebuilt his '82 CJ-8 into what you see now. He sent us before and after pictures, and it looks like something that sat in the ocean for a couple years before he started. Now, after building his own frame and replacing most of the body with 18-gauge panels, he's got something to be proud of. Its got the stock drivetrain in it right down to the axles and gears. However, the 258 six and auto transmission turns the 35x12.5 R15 Mastercraft Courser MTs with no problems. The Black Diamond 3.5-inch lift is used to help convert the Jeep to spring-over and clear the 35s.
Grand Rocking
This '95 ZJ shows us what might be possible with one of these if you really want to rock. Ron and Natalie Phillips sent us this picture of what looks to be the Rubicon trail. The 5.2L V-8 is pumped up to 300hp, but the real story is in what's downstream. They've added a 4.3 Atlas II, 8 1/2-inch Rubicon Express long-arm lift kit and 35x12.5 R15 Goodyear MT/Rs on Mickey Thompson Classic II rims. They ditched the stock axles in favor of a front Tera50 and rear Tera60, both with ARB Air Lockers, 4.56 gears, and disc brakes.
