Steve Sprayberry of Dallas, Texas, sent in this '94 YJ, and while it still has the stock 4.0 H.O. I-6 and AX-15 trans, he wasn't able to leave much else alone. It's got a Tera Low 4:1 and SYE in the transfer case, which sends power to the 4.88-geared Ford 8.8 with a Detroit Locker out back. Up front is a 4.88-geared Dana 30 with a Powertrax Lock-Right. Spinning the 35x12.5 Goodyear MT/Rs, Steve needed to add a 312-inch Fabtech suspension lift with a 1-inch body for clearance. Warn bumpers, gas-tank skidplate, and 9,500-pound winch get him a little farther into the woods, while a Poison Spyder Customs cage, Rocker Knockers, and Rock Ring differential skids help to get him back.
Leave the Lights On
Thomas Cochran Jr. of Fort Worth, Texas, chose some simple modifications for the maximum effectiveness on his '97 TJ. The four-banger spins the stock transmission, transfer case, and axles, but it has a 4-inch Rough Country suspension lift to clear 33x12.5R15 BFG ATs on black rockcrawler rims. The rear bumper is a Ranch Hand bumper and the front is a custom-fabricated unit. Inside, the Tuffy console and glovebox keep things in the Jeep that need to stay in the Jeep, while the ORO rear taillights and license plate relocation kit light up the rear end.
Mini-Mudder
We call them mini-mudders -- Jeeps with small lifts and 30-inch or less mud tires. There is just something appealing about them. Willy Jones of Bowen, Kentucky, sent in this '95 Cherokee Sport. It's got the stock 4.0 H.O. I-6, AW4 automatic transmission, and NP231 transfer case with the stock front Dana 30 and rear Chrysler 8.25. The tires are 29x10.5R15 Super Swamper Thornbirds on Crager Soft 8 15x8 rims. Clearance comes from a 2-inch budget boost. What Willy didn't spend on equipment for his Jeep, he makes up for by wheeling whenever and wherever he can in the South Fork area of Powell County, Kentucky.
