Squirrely Jeeping
This '90 Wrangler hails from Easley, South Carolina, and while we have no idea where owner Michelle Roper found the snow, it still is a cool picture. A 4-inch lift provided enough clearance for the 33x12.50R15 BFG Mud Terrain tires mounted on Centerline wheels. The drivetrain remains largely stock for now, with the four-banger, AX-5, and NP231 sending whatever power the squirrels can muster out to the stock front Dana 30 and stock rear Dana 35.
Family Fun Jeep
Rick Lebel of Fontana, California, sent us this picture of his '09 Wrangler Unlimited X wheeling in the Anza Borrego Desert. We weren't aware (actually only Trasborg wasn't) of a water crossing like this in California, much less the desert, but Rick tells us this is on the Coyote Canyon Trail on the way to an overnight camp in Sheep Canyon. The drivetrain and suspension of the Jeep are left stock. There are a few additions that Jeep should offer from the factory such as a Midland CB radio coupled to a Firestick get signal out while a Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx let Rick know where he is at any point in time.
First Time Idahoan
This '92 Wrangler belongs to Jay Stutzman of Boise, Idaho, and it's his first Jeep. He bought it in '05 and replaced the cracked exhaust manifold on the 4.0L with a Banks Torque Tube header followed by a Random Technology high-flow catalytic converter. A 41/2-inch Rubicon Express lift kit clears 35x12.50R17 Mickey Thompson MTZs on Cragar Soft 8s. The drivetrain is mostly stock with the exception of a Ford 8.8 in the rear and the stock A/C compressor is converted to run on-board-air with a 21/2-gallon Viair tank for a reservoir. All in all, not a bad first Jeep.
Old Yeller
This one-owner '79 CJ-7 has never had any problems or mechanical breakdowns, which is more than we can say for any of our CJs. Jerry Webb of Lake Charles, Louisiana, cared so much for this that for their 25th anniversary, the Jeep got a complete rebuild; which included a rebuilt T150, Edlebrock intake, camshaft, carburetor, distributor, valve covers, and air filter assembly. Mickey Thompson 31x10.50R15 Baja ATZ tires are turned by the stock axles stuffed with a Lock-Right in the front and a Detroit Locker in the rear (with one-piece shafts).
Sold Comanche
When Bobby Campos of Gold Canyon, Arizona, sent us this submission two years ago, he wrote to say how much he loved his '87 Comanche, how well it ran, and how his '05 "daily driver" just sits because he drove this Jeep all the time. With 51/2 inches of lift, Rusty's cut-out flares, a Random Technology catalytic converter, and Flowmaster exhaust, who can blame him? JKS shackles and 33-inch Mickey Thompson Baja Claws wrapped around some simulated beadlock wheels complete the look. However, this might not even be Bobby's MJ anymore, as he told us he was planning to sell it so he could get a four-door Unlimited once they were available.
Gecko
This monster '92 YJ is named simply, Gecko, and proves once again that they do things bigger in Texas. Robert Bradford didn't tell us where exactly he was from, but he did tell us that he is a 60-year-old driver who likes to out-wheel the whippersnappers. With a front Dana 60 stuffed with an OX Locker and a rear Corporate 14-bolt packed with a Detroit Locker bolted to 42-inch IROKs, we'd say it comes easily. The stock 4.0L is coupled to a TF727 and a Dana 300 with a 4:1 conversion. Rubicon Express 11/2-inch springs setup with a spring over conversion provides clearance for the monster meats and a Premier Power Welder comes in handy should anyone break.
Frackville Liberty
Normally Trasborg wouldn't run a Liberty for fear of Cappa sending him to Alaska to cover some snow wheeling in winter. But, since you guys aren't sending in usable Jeep Shots, when a nice Liberty like this comes in and meets the guidelines, it gets run. This '06 KJ belongs to Tammy Meyers of Frackville, Pennsylvania, and still gets going courtesy of the 3.7L V-6, four-speed automatic transmission, and NVG231 transfer case. A Rusty's Off Road 21/2-inch suspension lift clears the 245/75R16 Goodyear MT/Rs on Jeep Rubicon rims. Tammy tells us that while this picture shows a shiny KJ, she likes to get it muddy and enjoys wheeling in states near her hometown and as far away as Tennessee.
Eight-Year Itch
There is nothing like completing a frame-off resto and nothing like starting with a whole Jeep and after a lot of work and sweat ending up with a better-than-new version, and that is exactly what Nathan Lewis of Lehi, Utah, did with this '72 CJ-5. A swapped-in AMC 360 was mated to the stock three-speed. The Dana 20, Dana 30, and Dana 44 were all rebuilt and capped off with a set of Pro Comp Extreme ATs in 31x10.50R15 flavor wrapped around Mickey Thompson Classic II rims. A Painless wiring harness replaced the worn stock wiring and a 21/2-inch Superlift suspension lift replaced the worn-out stock springs.
Cool CJ-7
Everything we are about to tell you about this CJ-7 we made up or guessed at since the Jeep Shots form that accompanied this picture wasn't filled out. We don't even know this Texan's name, but we do know that he likes to wheel his Jeep. The rear of this CJ-7 has been converted over to a link-style suspension with the rear of the frame modified and the body comp-cut to clear the 42-inch Super Swamper TSLs. A custom flat belly pan keeps the drivetrain safe while a set of custom square-tube nerf bars protect the rocker panels. Rounding it off is a stinger and a set of front tube fenders to protect the front of the body.
