Ex-Cop
Rich Foster of Morgantown, West Virginia, isn't the ex-cop, his '96 Cherokee is. After the Jeep retired from the Kanawa Sherriff's office, Rich picked it up and while he has only had it for a little while, he wasted no time in taking it camping. It is still stock height and packs some good parts such as a 4.0L engine, AW4 transmission, and NP242 T-case. The only modifications so far are a Mean Green starter, a budget cold air intake, and a set of Goodyear Duratrac tires on the stock steel rims. Eventually Rich is going to put a 3 1/2-inch Rubicon Express lift on it, but for now he contents himself with responding to emergencies with his fire department.
Unlimited Chicagoland
This '07 Wrangler Unlimited is owned by Robert Shoup of Chicago, Illinois but the picture was taken in Oliver Springs, Tennessee. A 3-inch Black Diamond suspension lift pairs with a 1 1/4-inch body lift to provide clearance for some 35x12.5R17 BFG KM2 Mud Terrains. An AEV snorkel kit gets cold air into the 3.8L V-6 and 4.88 gears give it more oomph. The front LOD bumper houses an XRC8 winch and the evap canister is protected by a Skidrow skidplate. Out back, a LOD tire carrier bumper combo protects the rear.
Fifteen Footer
This '80 CJ-5 sure looks good in this picture, but Mike Condo of Greencastle, Pennsylvania, assures us it is a 15-footer (his words, not ours). Whatever the case is, his family gets use out of it by going down to the Outerbanks in Corolla, North Carolina, every summer. The Jeep is largely stock with some cheap aluminum craigslist-sourced aluminum rims topping the list of mods. Other modifications feature an interior resto with some YJ seats, new floor pans, truck bed lining, and a cheap stereo. Mike says he likes the Jeep just the way it is, ugly, and somewhat abused.
Deep River Mud
Todd Lesperance hails from Deep River, Ontario, Canada, and this picture of his Vette-powered '93 Wrangler shows it. The 350ci mill was swiped from a '69 Corvette and bolted to a 700R4 and NP241 with a slip yoke eliminator kit. Rough Country provides the 4-inch lift which clears 33x13.50/15 Interco TSL Super Swampers on American Racing black steel rims. The stock Dana 30 and 35 are still alive somehow, but Todd is working on a front and rear matching pair of Dana 44s. It was built for trail riding fun for Todd and his son, but right after this picture was taken, a 6-inch window opened up in the transmission.
Leatherneck
This '01 Wrangler belongs to a U.S. Marine who was stationed in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, at the time he sent in the submission. Clayton Frank has kept the 4.0L engine but swapped a Dana 44 from a '78 Ford F-150 in the front and kept the Jeep Dana 44 in the rear. Both axles are stuffed with 4.56 gears with an Aussie Locker in the front and a spool in the rear. Custom rock bumpers front and rear couple with homemade high line fenders to complete the off-road-ready look. A slip yoke eliminator kit allows use of a custom flat-bottom belly skid.
Ol' Skool
This '85 CJ-7 belongs to Duane Shaw of Texas, and has been 10 years in the making. In that decade the stock 258 was replaced by an AutoZone-rebuilt inline-six and topped with a Howell throttle-body fuel-injection. Navaho Power brakes bring the whoa and a Ford Taurus electric fan keeps everything cool. A Premier Power welder and York-based on-board air system allow Duane to bail out others. The engine is backed by a T-5 transmission and LoMax-stuffed Dana 300. A 4-inch lift clears the 35x12.50 BFG Mud Terrains. Checker racing seats and a full cage keep the occupants safe and comfy.
Three Years, Two States
This '78 CJ-7 took Craig Brown three years to complete. During those three years, he got married and moved to a new state. The tub is a '95 YJ tub with mid 80's CJ-embossed high-back seats sitting on a fresh coat of Herculiner. All-new 1-inch-lift body mounts team with 4 inches of suspension to clear the 33x12.50R15 Pro Comp Mud Terrains. The six-cylinder was rebuilt at home and mated to a T-18 and Dana 300. Custom front and rear bumpers team with Poison Spyder Customs rocker guards to provide perimeter protection. The half hard top and bulkhead are both sourced from a Scrambler making a mini-bed out back.
