Vintage Military Jeep Pictures Cj 2A
This is my dad, Dale Johnson, back in 1961 taking a break one cold Ohio morning. Now this area is a populated mall instead of open farmland. I believe it is a later CJ-2A, but I have also heard from my dad it is a surplus Willys MB. The Jeep used to help local motorists in the area by jumpstarting, roadside repair, picking up parts, and whatnot back when service stations did more than sell coffee and muffins. That Jeep sure was worn-in good.

Got an old Kodak of Grandpa wheeling his brand-new '48 CJ or Grandma coming home from the grocery store in her '54 Willys Wagon back when Ike was in the White House? Or how about your uncle's first Jeep trip over the Rubicon back in the 1970s? We wanna see 'em. Don't send us originals, but feel free to e-mail a maximum-quality JPEG scan at least 1600x1200 pixels in size to christian.hazel@jpmagazine.com, attn: Sideways Vintage Edition. Or you can snail mail copies of your treasures to Jp Magazine, Sideways Vintage Edition, 6420 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90048.

This is a picture of my uncle in France after VE Day with two German POWs. I know if they had Jp magazine back then, they would have been reading it.

Vintage Military Jeep Pictures Jeep Mb
This is my dad, Jerry Smiley, with an MB in Hawaii while in the Marines during the Korean War. Note the modified bumper, no blackout drive light, and the raised windshield top, which was a common mod to keep the top from beating your head while flapping! My dad was a buck sergeant, a rank long since retired. I am building a replica MB using the buweps number in the picture.

This is a photo of Lyle Borland, of Oak Grove, Missouri. This photo was taken in 1944 in Europe. Lyle was a staff sergeant-mess sergeant for General Omar Bradley's headquarters. Lyle liked the military jeep so well that he bought a rare column-shift CJ-2A Jeep in 1946 and used it as the main family transportation for at least 16 years.
