150000 Mile Rebuild Bushings
With the clunking and noises we were hearing coming from under the Jeep, we expected our old Johnny Joint parts (right) to look way worse than what they did. Out of eight joints, only four had bushings that were beyond saving but we went with all new bushings to make sure. The metal balls were simply cleaned up and reused.

One of the few things that we did have issues with, after five solid years of Southern California sun and many wheeling trips, was that the stock soft top was faded and the zippers were stuck or had skipped their tracks. The only way to remove the top or the windows was to unfasten it from the soft top bows. Bestop came to the rescue with a Sunrider soft top (TJ top replacement, September '07)

150000 Mile Rebuild Dyno Test
Ten? Twenty? Thirty? We stopped counting tanks of gas we've burned testing on the dyno. From "A Day on the Dyno" (June '07) to "Intake Shootout" (April '08) we've flogged Red mercilessly to bring you the best information we could. Let's see your old CJ do that after over 100,000 miles.

150000 Mile Rebuild Clutch Line
This is the closest we came to being stranded. The roll pin that retains the hydraulic clutch line to the master cylinder worked itself loose, and a step on the clutch pedal in traffic resulted in nothing. Powershifting to the nearest gas station got us some tools and some DOT3 brake fluid, and after a quick bleed of the clutch, we were back on the road.

150000 Mile Rebuild Track Bar Mount
A common problem on TJs that see a lot of wheeling is that the track bar mount can start working itself loose from the frame. You can tell if yours is, because there will be rust between the cast bracket and the framerail. Ours had rust forming, but wasn't loose enough to move by hand so Currie built us this truss to brace the upper bracket to the passenger-side framerail. In our case, we didn't have to cut off and re-weld the bracket to the frame, but if your bracket can be moved by hand (with the track bar removed), you have some extra work ahead of you.
