i would like to upgrade my steering system to someting a little newer that is not power steering. i have a 2-3 inch lift and 31in. tire looking to do a complete swap out of old system. has anyone ever done this and are there any good junk yard finds i should look for from other jeeps. thanks

I dont have an extreme death wobble but what i noticed was at 60-65 mph if i let go of the steering wheel it begins to wobble. I havnt installed a lift on it yet or messed with the driveline or suspenion in any way besides installing a new set of leaf springs. With mostly stock equipment any suggestions on what might be the problem?

Twice now the engine has stalled. Once when it had only 15K and now again with 73k. Both times it stalled out when I tried to make a run at a steep and crossed up incline. At the top of the hill my open diffs would spin the tires. I backed up and tried to hit it with a little more speed. When the one front and one back tire came off the ground the engine stalled. I have had this jeep since new and have wheeled it many times without a problem. Could going backwards in 1st. gear cause the engine to stall? Any ideas would be greatly appriciated.

Hey all, so i'm a little ways north here in canada, and phoned the local dodge jeep dealership to inquire about dynatrac's "new generation, high performance" dana 44 front axle. i was looking for a little more beef under my 200,000km tj and was feeling dreamy so i called up the parts desk and got a price quote for PN P5155256. Turns out taxes in this thing was over $9000 canadian funny moneys. so just kinda curious as to what the prices run for you guys down south? Nine large for a front axle? :shocked: Holy Dina. I have an 06 Rubicon Unlimited and am in the process of converting to LED tail lights. I already converted the fronts and relay and are working fine. The problem is that I got all uppidy and cut the wiring harness to the rear lights and cannot get the new LED's to work. I can't seem to find anyone with my color wires to tell me what hooks to what. I know that I needed to add a resistor and have done all that and my test light doesn't tell me anything. Can someone save me from my self inflicted pain?

Our club is planning a smaller scale "Camp Jeep" kind of event next year. Prob. summer. It will be held in Northern Kentucky. This will be a weekend event. 2000 plus acres of trails from mild to very, very wild. Jeep playground, vendors, live music etc. We plan on having 500 -1000 Jeeps. What are the specs for regringing the crank for the F134 engine? I know this was a military based engine. Parts are available for rod bearings in 0.010 increments from std to 0.080 undersize. This seams like a lot of grind. Are these cranks realy built to take this much reduction? Thanks

The comparative light weight of aluminum to steel may seem lucrative. However, I think the cost of using the correct material will be prohibitive. Using the wrong kind of aluminum can result in a rigid yet brittle frame. Typically aluminum is more rigid than steel. It won't flex. But eventually it will simply fail without any signs of fatigue. Having said that, I believe there are several types of aluminum that could make a good frame, such as 6061, 7005 or 7075 among others, if designed properly. But just know ahead of time that it's not as versatile or as easily repaired as steel.

Purchased a 1947 willys, clutch slips, transmission grinds . Supposedly has a new clutch. Free play is 1 to 1.5 inches on pedal. Cable activated linkage, stock I suppose. Before I tear down, is there any other thing to check?

Not sure at all. I'm thinking the speedometer oil seal may be gone. I know the rear main seal is always good for a few drops after running. I am trying to fix the easy ones first.

Cappa is smoking dope. Those are the coolest Jeep wheels around. Biggest bummer is size availability. The stock ones are hard to find and when you do find 'em they're only 15x7 or 15x8. The Ansens are the same way - 15x8 is the biggest and you've gotta check the center hole diameter to make sure your hubs will fit through. Back in the day I think you could get wider ones, but the bolt pattern is more likely gonna be a car-specific 5x4.25 or 5x4.75. Maybe some old Mopar 5x4.5 are kicking around, but you'd need to piece together a set of 4 on eBay or something and it'd probably take you a while. I'd love to see a 15x10 version for a 4x4 offered in 5-, 6-, and 8-lug. I'd run a set of 15x10s converted with beadlocks on my next build without blinking.

My 02 TJ with the stock D30 axle needs new gears, pinion bearings, etc. I have located another 2002 D30 axle that has only 15,000 on the axle. To purchase the replacement axle will be much cheaper than replacing parts in the one under the Jeep now. The problem is that my TJ has ABS brakes, and the replacement axle does not. What will need to be done to make the replacement axle work with my Jeeps ABS system? Thanks, I appreciate any help, thoughts, input.

Also check for play in any part of the steering linkages. And don't forget to put it in 4-hi and 4-lo. Only put it in 4 on loose surfaces or go in a straight line. Make sure it goes in and out of 4-hi/low easy and doesn't make any sounds while driving. Another person walking next to the Jeep while doing this in a parking lot helps.
