Every year we do some sort of Christmas gift guide which is written by a guy from a guy's point of view for our 98 or 99 percent male audience. Figuring that most of you will hand this story to the people who actually still get you gifts, this year, we decided to include the gift buyer/significant other's point of view too. So, from both his and her point of view, here are 20 things to go shopping for.
Impact!!! He Says: Why is... Impact!!! He Says: Why is it so hard to find an impact gun that actually breaks bolts loose like that old one I used to use?She Says: With 780 lb-ft of power and weighing in less than 4 pounds, I should be able to use the 2135TiMAX and anyway, if that doesn't break the bolt loose, I don't know what will.Information: Ingersoll-Rand Company, 201/573-0123, ingersollrand.com All-In-One-Ometer He Says:... All-In-One-Ometer He Says: It is such a pain in the butt trying to figure out a gauge layout for my custom dash, and this kit has RPM, speed, fuel level, odometer, trip odometer, and turn signals. With options for fuel pressure, air inlet temperature, and more, this is one cool packageShe Says: Finally I can get him away from the obsessive planning of the dashboard in that money pit. It might not be cheap, but maybe with the extra time he has, he'll actually do the dishes.Information: STACK, Inc, 888/867-5183, stackinc.com Another Project He Says:... Another Project He Says: I still remember when my ex bought me that clapped out CJ-5. There is always a special place in my heart for someone who buys me that project I've wanted. She Says: Sure it will mean another project, but he's been talking about (insert model of Jeep here) since I've known him. And, every time he works on it, he'll think of me.Information: Your local want ads or farmer with a Jeep in the back field What Time Is It? He Says:... What Time Is It? He Says: How hard is it to make a watch that can take a hit, deal with mud, water, and dust, and tell me the right time and date without having to take it to a jewelry store and have the battery changed every year? She Says: The Mudman G-Shock from Casio, with solar cells, atomic clock daily updates, and mud-proof claims should keep him busy for a while trying to destroy it or coming up with an excuse how he "didn't realize what time it was" working on the Jeep this time.Information: Casio, 800/634-1895, casio.com Air-Right He Says: Why is... Air-Right He Says: Why is it so hard to find a tire pressure gauge that is accurate, and can fill my big tires in a decent amount of time? I think the 2009 Power Tank Inflators with their durable construction, accurate readings and cool liquid filled gauge is the way to go.She Says: If it will keep him from throwing another one of these things across the garage and into the wall, I'll buy him both: the 60 psi and the 160 psi one for the trailer.Information: Power Tank, 209/334-0898, powertank.com Easy Wiring He Says: What... Easy Wiring He Says: What is the point of a key on a trail-only Jeep? I always leave the keys in the dang thing anyway. I'd like to be able to start it with a switch, race-car style. She Says: The Nelson Specialties Switch Panel with its military-spec switches, screw-down terminals, and neat layout should take the abuse even he dishes out.Information: Nelson Specialties, 704/662-6000, nelsonspecialties.com Bombproof Directions He Says:... Bombproof Directions He Says: All of these GPS units are so hyper sensitive to moisture and getting dropped. I'd like to know where I'm going, but I'm not going to pay money for something that will break the first time I (ab)use it.She Says: The RT300 from Jeep not only is "Trail Rated" but is rubber encased so even my big oaf can't hurt it. Plus, we might actually get to where we are going without taking the "scenic route".Information: Jeep, 800/789-5337, gear.jeep.com More Power/Too Much Power... More Power/Too Much Power He Says: Heck, if I'm going to get a crate engine with that overtime money I've been saving, why not go all out with a 555ci big block that puts out 650hp and 650 lb-ft? More power is good power. She Says: That is way too much power for him. But, if I win the lottery, or cash in some CDs (we don't live forever), I bet he'd not only do the dishes, but watch the kids, and finish that yard work.Information: Edlebrock Corporation, 800/416-8628, edlebrock.com More Light, More Beef He... More Light, More Beef He Says: I'm sick of these plastic lens, plastic case lights that not only crack, but explode when a stick or rock so much as thinks of hitting them. I need something that will actually last a whole night run.She Says: With a stamped steel housing, and glass lens protected by a mesh cover he'd have to run it straight into a tree to damage it. It has PIAA's inherent quality and the Xtreme White 85W bulb in it too.Information: PIAA Corporation, 503/489-6666, piaa.com Factory Power Fix He Says:... Factory Power Fix He Says: I've wanted more power for my JK since I got it. Why didn't the factory give us the Hemi option that the engine compartment has the space for?She Says: If it's a Hemi he wants, the JK Hemi Builder Kit from AEV can help him do it. With all the cutting, fabbing, measuring, and cussing work already done, all he will need to do is find the Hemi engine.Information: American Expedition Vehicles, 406/251-2100, aev-conversions.com Easy Comfort He Says: I am... Easy Comfort He Says: I am so sick and tired of setting up the tent, blowing up the air mattress, finding a spot of ground with no rocks or tree roots, and worrying about the tent blowing away. I want an easier way.She Says: The Simpson II from ARB has a larger than a queen size bed foam pad in it, the aluminum frame opens easily, the poly-cotton design is both waterproof and breathable, and no-drill mounting means no leaks inside the vehicle thanks to his great "measuring".Information: ARB 4x4 Accessories, 425/264-1391, arbusa.com Clean And Simple He Says:... Clean And Simple He Says: Why is it so hard for manufacturers to put out a good looking, non-gaudy black aluminum rim with raw aluminum at the tire so it doesn't look like crap the first time I scrape it?She Says: The Granite Alloy GA8 from Tire Rack.com should be exactly what he wants. And, at $109 each, not too spendy for an aluminum wheelInformation: Tire Rack.com, 888/541-1777, tirerack.com Forget-A-Speedo He Says:... Forget-A-Speedo He Says: I want a speedometer that I install in the Jeep once and never have to mess with again. I want it to handle impact and vibration, and I don't want to worry about if I change tire size or gearing or axles. I just want it to work. She Says: A GPS speedometer is what he needs and the ones from Livorsi come in a variety of colors, styles, and sizes.Information: Livorsi Marine, Inc, 847/752-2700, livorsi.com Full Control He Says: Why... Full Control He Says: Why should some manufacturer tell me when my electric fan is supposed to come on and when it should shut off? I don't want a choice of two temperatures; I want complete control over on/off so that I can have what works for my Jeep. She Says: the PAC-2700 from Dakota Digital is infinitely adjustable and can leave the fan on for a time after the Jeep is shut off. That should keep him entertained trying to figure out the "perfect" temps for his Jeep.Information: Dakota Digital Inc, 888/200-8969, dakotadigital.com Milk Crate Delete He Says:... Milk Crate Delete He Says: Sitting on milk crates is all well and good, but it sure would be nice to have a better butt pad for bench racing and brainstorming sessions. She Says: That beadlock wheel company, OMF has some cool stools that I could get customized with embroidery and colors to match both his Jeep and garage.Information: OMF Performance Products, 951/354-8272, omfperformance.com A Good Line He Says: Why... A Good Line He Says: Why is it so hard to find a decent way to secure new fuel or brake lines in the old CJ?She Says: The Line Clamp Kits from Poly Performance would make a great filler gift. It is such a simple yet elegant polyurethane design; I don't see why someone didn't do it sooner.Information: Poly Performance, 805/783-2060, polyperformance.com More Traction He Says: I'll... More Traction He Says: I'll never save up enough for that high end selectable locker. I wish I had something in the Jeep now to get me further. She Says: Even though there might be tire wear or drivability issues, I'm sure he'll get the hang of it, and a spool from JT's Parts and Accessories is a low-cost way for him to lock up the rear. If his stocking was big enough, I'd put it in there.Information: JT's Parts & Accessories, 866/349-6801, justdifferentials.com Dang Gas Stations He Says:... Dang Gas Stations He Says: I've been avoiding spending the money on an on-board air system until the Jeep is more reliable. But half of the gas stations I go to don't have a working air compressor to fill the tires up. It would be nice to have something. She Says: I might not know much about "OBA" but this XC compressor from Air-Zenith is made from 6061 aluminum in a variety of colors, has a waterproof cooling fan, microchip-controlled overload protector, and has a 2-year warranty, so how can I go wrong?Information: Air-Zenith, 702/270-7988, air-zenith.com What A Relief! He Says: As... What A Relief! He Says: As much as I like the new JK, I hate the full doors because of the lack of an armrest. I miss the half-doors I had on my YJ.She Says: The armrests from Misch 4x4 attach to the full door of the new Jeep at about the same place his arm would be in the old Jeep.Information: Misch 4x4 Products, 620/251-9100, misch4x4.com A Cut Above He Says: Benchmade... A Cut Above He Says: Benchmade knives are high quality, and take a lot of wire/hose/plastic cutting abuse, and they don't rust really easy and hold a good blade. She Says: He really wants that 950 Rift (bottom) with the fancy two-toned G10 handles and the BK1 coating option he thinks look uber cool. But, the Griptilian (top) series have the same Benchmade quality, still take a beating, and come in at a lower price point. Hmmm... what he wants, what the budget will take, or both?
