Camping without a table is like peanut butter without jelly. In the early days, Jeeps had built-in tables in the form of tailgates. Unfortunately, the last Jeep to have a table, er, tailgate rolled off the assembly line back in 1986 (OK, the Comanche had ’em until 1992). Since then, Jeep owners have been stuck holding the mustard for that ham sandwich. Outback Adventure Products manufactures the “Trailgater,” which is a unique, all-in-one folding utility table and cutting board built exclusively for Jeep Wranglers. It is compact and easily stows out of the way when not in use; installation takes less than 10 minutes and it requires no drilling.
Made from 14-gauge, food-grade stainless steel, the Trailgater is FDA-approved for direct contact with food. The optional bamboo or high- density polyethylene (HDPE) cutting board slides out, adding an extra 14 inches of surface and is removable for cleaning. The backsplash and folding table conveniently mounts to the swing out rear door of JKs, TJs, and YJs.

Open the tailgate and remove the plastic wire cover. Squeeze the top edge and remove the tab on the upper edge from the slot. Place the six blind inserts (in yellow) into the designated slots. Four of the inserts slide into the top small slots above the wiring loom and the two remaining inserts are placed into the lower vent grille.

Remove the cutting board during installation and position the table so that the top center hole lines up with the top center insert. Carefully, snug up all six #8 screws and avoid overtightening.

New for 2012 is a rattle-free, spring-pin latch design for single-handed use. The optional bamboo cutting board slides out right or left, creating an additional 10x14 inches of working space. When not in use, the Trailgater folds up to a slim 1.8 inches deep.
