If the transfer case is going to be removed from the vehicle, the driveshafts, speedometer cable, vacuum lines, exhaust bracket, and transmission mounts must be removed. For a chain replacement or a part-time kit installation, only the rear half needs to be taken off. You can separate the case halves by removing the case bolts.
