Recent technological advancements in heavy right feet and difficult trails have made standard front axles less than desirable. Dont get us wrong, for most Jeep applications the factory front axles will hold together, and if not, a Dana 44 or Ford 9-inch ½-ton front axle with 297 U-joints can handle the majority of modified Jeeps. But for some it just isnt that easy. Built and swapped-in engines with Tonya Harding-hitting torque combined with tires past the height of your belly button make for some extreme needs and crackling axle noises. The previous answer was to throw money at it and toss a 1-ton Dana 60 under the front of your Jeep. Thats a lot of gear and a lot of weight. Currie Enterprises developed an answer that will help with the strength, ground-clearance, and weight issues while utilizing parts from that custom axle you already spent some major coin on. Currie starts with a brand new Ford F-450 Dana 60 front axle and relieves it of its knuckles, shafts, huge 1480 U-joints, and other outer components. These are then grafted to your front axle or, in our case, a cut and skidplated Currie Ford 9-inch. So if you have a Dana 44, 9-inch, or no axle at all, Currie can build a 1-ton front that will keep your joints from popping.
