Regearing Jeep Axles Parts
In total, the top-quality Superior Axle & Gear front and rear ring and pinion gear sets and installation kits for the Dana 30 and Dana 35 axles totaled about $590 as of press time as offered through Quadratec. Prices vary by region, but average installation labor generally runs about $250 per axle , so for purposes of this article we'll call the labor an even $500. Figure it'll run you roughly $1,090 to do a straight regear, plus or minus as much as a couple of hundred bucks.

Regearing Jeep Axles E Locker
Yeah, that's a brand new Eaton E-Locker which you'll read a full review on in the next issue of Jp. Miller set the front and rear patterns and then buttoned the rig back up for some ham-fisted power shifting.

Regearing Jeep Axles G Tch Pro
The G-Tech Pro is a really neat little computer that uses G-forces to measure acceleration, cornering, and a ton of other performance variables. Despite its easy installation (plug it into the cigarette lighter and stick it on the windshield) don't question its accuracy. Hot Rod magazine ran tests comparing the accuracy of a G-Tech to an actual 1/4-mile dragstrip's timing lights and found accuracy to within 0.01 second.

Regearing Jeep Axles Test
Using my Intercomp race scales, I measured the little red Wrangler at 3,629lbs. With my 160lb frame in the driver's seat, I plugged the resulting 3,789lb total into the horsepower formulas in the sidebar, Math Class. Even though the G-Tech will measure horsepower if you enter the vehicle weight, I wanted to use the old-school hand-calculated method to check a few different variables. Do the results surprise you?
Horsepower versus MPH:
Horsepower = Weight x ( Velocity ) 3
234

Horsepower versus ¼-mile elapsed time (ET):
Horsepower = Weight
(ET ÷ 5.825)³

Horsepower Change based on ET difference:
Horsepower Change = Weight _ Weight
(ET #1 ÷ 5.825)³ (ET #2 ÷ 5.825)³
