For those of you that missed it last month, I am Randy. While I might not be the sharpest crayola in the 54-pack, I do know a thing or two about electricity. The wise editors at Jp Magazine decided to invite me back again so I could share some of that with you.
Now, I know it's wrong, but I am really hoping that karma will forgive me. I mean, it is all in harmless fun. Kind of like that time me and Earl were the last people in the world, and decided to live in that store.
I am talking about April Fools pranks. One of my favorite ones is making the car horn honk on its own. You Jeep people are just so easy to get with this one.
Sometimes I'll hook the horn up to the high beams, but how often do you use high beams? Sometimes I'll hook it up to the brake lights, but the judge told me I had to stop that after dad got scared and hit a police car. So, most often, I'll just hook the horn up to a turn signal. That lets me see the people use it pretty fast, and nothing is funnier than the horn honking every time the blinker turns on. "Honk, honk, honk, honk, honk, honk," I am laughing just thinking about it.
The reason the Jeep is so easy is that there is no hood lock, the turn signals are really easy to get to, and on a lot of them, there is already a hole to get to the horn. I think Jeep designed these things with this kind of prank in mind. Plus, the Jp Magazine editors don't care about Subaru Brat pranks.
I usually use the wire that makes the front turn signal flash and the plus wire to the horn. Don't worry if your victim has two horns-it is just as funny with either one. Using the black wire is probably not good, 'cause that wire is dirt. (Editors note: We think he means "ground.")
This one is so easy. All that is needed is this $1.66 from electrical connector pack with two T-taps, two male connectors, and a 2-foot length of scrap wire. I had this wire left over from that last 8-track player I put in, but you could use regular tape-deck install wire too. | The only tool you need after you are all set up is a pair of pliers for the T-tap connector. The T-tap fastens onto the wires you want to tap into and looks like a "T" when you are done. We played this prank on "Red," the '01 TJ, and used the gray wire from the turn signal and the green wire from the horn. | Here is the money! If you are not sure about which wires to tap, and the person who owns the Jeep is bigger than you, use an inline fuse. If they are smaller than you and can't kick your butt or you don't care about being nice, do what you want, but I warned you. You might damage the Jeep if you do it wrong. |
