Spring Over Vs Spring Under Hell Creek
A heavier, more highly-arched pack used in a spring-over configuration such as this Hell Creek Suspensions FSJ pack will be less susceptible to axlewrap than a flatter spring. The tradeoffs can be (but aren't always) a slightly stiffer ride and less flex than a flatter, thinner pack.

Spring Over Vs Spring Under U Joint
This V-8-equipped spring-over flatty chucked its axle U-joint, spitting out the driveshaft after the traction bar mount tore off of the axle tube and allowed the pinion to rocket skyward under load. Stock Wrangler springs have been and still are one of the most popular spring-over configurations, but be prepared for a lifetime of fighting traction bar and axle wrap issues.

The factory 5-leaf rear Wrangler spring pack (top) has been modified with an additional leaf under the main eye to help counter sagging. The flat Wrangler pack in a spring-over configuration nets the same amount of lift as the Rubicon Express 4.5-inch Extreme Duty spring-under pack (bottom). Although the eye-to-eye measurement at rest is nearly equal between the two springs, the spring-under pack will grow much longer upon compression and will offer less droop than the flatter Wrangler pack.

If you do build or buy your own traction bar, make sure the traction bar shackle is mounted at a 90-degree angle to the traction bar with the suspension sitting flat and level. You also want the traction bar to be at least as long as the spring-eye to centerpin distance of your springs (23 inches for a Wrangler pack such as this).
