Four-Wheel-Steer Jeeps
|
The '13-'28 Nash Quad was the role-model for the Jeep four-wheel-steer rigs of 1940. First tested by the Army in 1913 and wearing the Jeffery nameplate, the Quad was used in large numbers during World War I--and not just by Americans. Almost every allied army bought a few. Nash purchased the Jefferey company in 1916 and reaped the profits of thousands of wartime sales. This 1915 ad shows the Quad in civvy guise and still bearing the proud Jefferey name. The Quad has a slight connection to the Jeep, Nash having been one of the companies absorbed by American Motors in the 1950s. View Related Article
