Kicking Back
This image was shot by Petersen Publishing Company photographer Al Paloczy in May, 1957 for Hot Rod magazine. While it never graced the pages of Hot Rod, we can only guess that such parking gatherings were a common place to find modified Jeeps back then.
Fat-Chewing Centerpiece
This flatfender was owned by Brian Chuchua and featured a chromed windshield frame, grille, and front bumper, which was not uncommon in the late ’50s. However, the big cubic inch Chrysler Polysphere engine swap with a McCulloch blower was something special for the era. This photo was also shot by Al Paloczy for Hot Rod magazine and until now was unpublished.
De Anza Hill Climb
The Hemet Cavalcaders took to the desert east of Hemet after the show-n-shine finished up. This photo was taken by Marvin Patchen in March, 1959 for Motor Life magazine. This shot was never published.
Best in Show
Shot in March, 1959 for Motor Life magazine by Marvin Patchen, this unpublished photo highlighted a rare ’48-’51 Jeepster that was converted to 4WD. This fine example probably belonged to a Jeep enthusiast with deep pockets—the clean whitewall tires and polished aluminum hubcaps were a status symbol and out of place on a 4x4 of the era.
